Fatal ad traffic collision at Eyeries, Cork on the 16th May 2015

Gardaí at Castletownbere are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the Castletownbere to Ardgroom Rd this evening, Saturday 16th May 2015 at approximately 4.40pm

A male pedal cyclist 71  years, was out cycling with a group of colleagues when he came off his bicycle and struck the ground. His colleagues administered CPR, until a local Doctor attended the scene. The Doctor pronounced the man dead a short time later and his body has been taken to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.

No one else was injured.
 
The road was closed to facilitate a Garda Forensic Collision examination and has now reopened.

Gardaí are appealling for witnesses to the collision to contact them at Castletownbere Garda Station on 027 70002, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
