As part of ongoing investigations into dissident republican activity members of An Garda Síochána attached to the Special Detective Unit assisted by members of the Emergency Response Unit stopped and searched a car on the Dundalk to Ardee Road last night the 11th July 2015.
During the course of the search of the car a firearm and ammunition(subject to ballistic examination) were discovered. A male 53 years was arrested and is being detained at Dundalk Garda station under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.
During a follow up search of a premises in Co. Louth a firearm and stolen car were also recovered.
Investigations are ongoing.
