Drug seizure and arrest in Ballina, Mayo on the 8/2/15

As part of an on-going intelligence led operation targeting the illegal sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Mayo area, Gardaí have seized cannabis plants and arrested a male.

Gardai carried out a planned search of a house in Ballina yesterday afternoon (08/02/15). During the course of the search cannabis plants (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of up to €42,000 were seized. A male in his late 40’s was arrested at the scene and detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Ballina Garda Station. The male was released without charge late last night and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

These operations use advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks. Drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities. Drug seizures also help protect communities from the devastating impact of drugs and the associated criminality.
