Update - Pan European 24-hour speed enforcement marathon 06.00, Thursday 16 April to 06.00, Friday 17 April 2015

An Garda Siochana and the TISPOL President Chief Superintendent Aidan Reid (DMR Traffic) wish to thank motorists for their cooperation in thinking about their speed – legal and appropriate for the conditions, during the enforcement period.

Chief Superintendent Reid wishes to urge drivers to continue to comply with speed limits and to drive safely – SPEED KILLS. 
 

In the 24 hour period between 06.00 Thursday and 06.00 Friday, An Garda Siochana and GoSafe checked 98,650 vehicles and detected 659 vehicles speeding. (These figures will increase as detections continue to be processed).
 
 
Unfortunately despite the widespread publicity some drivers have failed to change their driving behaviour. Some notable occurrences amongst the non-compliant motorists during the 24 hour period were:
 
 
•         137 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the N7 Greenhills Kill Kildare

•         114 km/h in a 80 km/h zone on the R448 Gorteengrone Carlow Carlow

•         130 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the N6 Clonbrusk Athlone Westmeath

•         134 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the N3 Daggan Cavan Cav

•         115 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the N18 Cratloe Clare

•         107 km/h in a 80 km/h zone on the R280 Drumheckil Carrick-On-Shannon Leitrim

•         117 km/h in a 80 km/h zone on the R237 Roosky Newtowncunningham Donegal

•         132 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the N3 Huntstown Dublin15 Dublin

•         119 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the N25 Kilmacthomas Waterford

•         107 km/h in a 80 km/h zone on the R733 Tracystown East Cleariestown Wexford

•         90 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on the R523  Bunagarha Listowel Kerry
