Armed robbery and arrest at Clogherhead, Louth 0n the 20/4/15

As part of an ongoing operation of proactive patrolling to combat armed robberies by the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, three males have been arrested following an armed robbery of a Post office in Clogherhead, today Monday the 20th April, 2015.

The incident occurred at approximately 11.45am when three males entered the Post office, one of the males was armed with a sawn-off shotgun. They threatened staff and demanded money. As they left the Post Office with a sum of money they were confronted by Gardai and a struggle ensued. A male (25 years) was arrested by Gardai attached to the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau. A sawn-off shoutgun and the proceeds of the robbery were also recovered.

With the assistance of local Gardai and the Regional Support Unit, two further males (24 and 36 years) were arrested. The three males are currently being detained at Dundalk and Drogheda Garda stations under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.
