Gardai have named the woman who was found deceased at a house near Mayo Abbey yesterday as Sarah Staunton.
The post mortem has been completed and the results given to the investigation team who are now conducting a murder investigation.
The male in his early 20’s remains in custody at Castlebar Garda Station.

Gardai in Castlebar are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a female in her late 20’s at a rural house near Mayo Abbey, Castlebar at approximately 12 midday today.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the body remains at the scene.
The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and Dr. Michael Curtis is scheduled to attend.
