Male released - Dissident republican arrests in Cavan/Leitrim on the 2/12/13

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A 51 year old male, arrested and detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939-'98, at Ballyconnell Garda Station on Monday 2nd December 2013, in connection with an investigation into the activities of dissident republicans and the fatal shooting of Mr. David Black, Prison Officer, H.M.P. Maghaberry in Lurgan on 1st November 2012, was released from Garda custody, without charge, on Tuesday night, 3rd December 2013.. 


A second male, 34 years, arrested in connection with the same investigation, remains in Garda custody at Cavan Garda Station.

Gardaí investigating the activities of dissident republicans and the fatal shooting of Mr. David Black, Prison Officer, H.M.P. Maghaberry in Lurgan on 1st November 2012, have arrested two men.

As part of an ongoing operation by the Special Detective Unit targeting dissident republicans and in particular their involvement in the murder of Mr. David Black,  a number of searches were carried out today 2nd December 2013 in the Leitrim and Cavan areas.


The two men, one aged 51 and one aged 34 have been arrested under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 and are being detained at Garda stations in the Cavan area. The men can be detained for up to 72 hours.
