Update - ‘Operation Nascar’ Co. Cork on the 24/4/13

Gardai have arrested five people this morning (24/4/2013).

It is as part of ‘Operation Nascar’.  The arrests were made during an operation in Co. Cork involving members of the Organised Crime Unit and Fraud Investigation Unit attached to Anglsea Street Garda station along with local detectives.


During this morning’s operation 3 males and 2 females (ranging in age from 20's to 40's) were arrested.  They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a number of stations in Co Cork.


The investigation which is named ‘Operation Nascar’ is centred around fraudulent motor insurance claims.


This brings to 17 the number of persons arrested as part of this ongoing investigation.

As part of an ongoing investigation into suspected organised fraudulent motor insurance injury claims, Gardai in Anglesea Street in Cork arrested seven people (four females and three males) this morning 13th March 2013. They are detained at various stations in the Midlands and Cork under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.

One male has been released without charge and the remaining six are still being questioned.

These seven arrests form part of the second stage of this investigation named Operation Nascar. Five people were arrested in Munster on the 6th February 2013. They were released without charge, pending a file to DPP.
