Update - Operation "Wireless II" on the 20/11/12

As part of Operation Wireless II targeting the criminal activity and organised criminal actions of a number of selected targets nationwide Gardai have now arrested 113 people.

These people are detained at various stations throughout the country including the following:


Kells, Bray, Athlone, Mullingar, Galway, Claremorris, Castlerea, Tralee, Henry Street, Roxoboro Road, Fermoy, Togher, Mayfield, Waterford, Enniscorthy, Carlow and stations within the Dublin Metropolitan Region.


These arrests are for Drug Trafficking, Robbery, Aggravated Burglary, Possession of Firearms, Burglary, Theft, Handling Stolen Property, Drug  and other related offences.


They are detained under various legislation including Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984, Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 and Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Operation Wireless is a part of our  ongoing strategy  targeting  the criminal activity and organised criminal actions of a number of selected targets nationwide.

This morning the second nationwide phase of Operation Wireless commenced.  There have been 236 planned searches carried out as part of this operation.  The searches relate to searches for stolen property, drugs, cannabis grow houses, firearms and other types of evidence relevant to ongoing criminal investigations  across the country.

A number of searches were conducted with regard to outstanding European Arrest Warrants and one Polish National was arrested on foot of an outstanding EAW for a Serious Assault in Poland.

In addition over 50 arrest have been made nationwide relating to offences of  Drug Trafficking,  Robbery, Aggravated Burglary,  Possession of  Firearms, Burglary, Theft, Handling Stolen Property, Drug  and other  related offences.  These are detained at Garda Stations nationwide under various detention periods.

A substantial quantity of cannabis plants, approximately 4,200 in total, have been seized at the various cannabis growhouses searched today.  The street value of these plants is estimated to be in the region of € 3,500,000  (pending analysis). These searched were in Rathcormack, Cork, Clonroache, Wexford, Laytown and in Dublin.
