Criminal Damage to painting in the National Gallery on the 29/6/12

Gardai investigating criminal damage to a painting at the National Gallery on Merrion Street have arrested a man.

The incident occurred between 11.30 am and 12 noon on the 29th June 2012.  The painting by Monet was hanging in room 10 in the lower base wing of the gallery.
 
The man in his 40s was arrested this afternoon and is detained at Pearse Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
 
Gardai are asking anyone who visited the National Gallery this morning to contact them at Pearse Street on 01 666 9000.
