Drug seizure and arrests in Spain on the 30/8/12

Two Irish Nationals were arrested in relation to a drug seizure in Spain on 30th August 2012.

As part of an intelligence led Drug Trafficking investigation into the importation and distribution of illicit drugs into the State involving the Garda National Drugs Unit, Customs Revenue Service and the Spanish National Police, Cannabis Resin with an estimated street value of €3 million has been seized (subject to analysis).

The seizure was made as part of an operation targeting an organised criminal group based in Cork. Following an interdiction by the Spanish Navy yesterday evening a yacht the "Colin Hannah" was searched and approximately 500kgs of Cannabis Resin recovered. Two crew members (both male) were arrested on board the vessel.

During a follow up operation on mainland Spain two Irish Nationals (one male and one female), two U.K. Nationals and a German national (all male) were arrested and are presently in custody.  Enquiries are still ongoing between the Garda National Drugs Unit and the Spanish Police.
