Burglary and arrests in Cork City on the 28/6/11 - Court appearance

A man aged in his 20s is expected to appear before a sitting of Cork District Court (Anglesea Street) this morning

He is charged in relation to an incident at a house on Wolf Tone Street on the 26th June 2011.

Gardaí at Gurranabraher in Cork investigating a burglary on the 26/6/11 in Wolfe Stone Street in Cork have arrested two men.

An elderly gentleman was standing at the front of his home at approximately 7.30am on Sunday, the 26/6/11 when he was approached by a lone male.  This man claimed to be a Garda and asked the elderly man if he had any cash in the house, he then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash in the direction of Sunvalley Drive and got into a waiting car driven by a second man.  

In an operation carried out today (28/6/11) Gardaí searched a house in the Blarney area, during the course of this search a substantial amout of cash was recovered and one man in his late 20's arrested. In a follow-up search a second house was searched in the Fairhill area of Cork and another man was arrested (late 20's).  A car was also seized and is the subject to a forensic examination.

Both men are detained at Gurranabraher Garda Station under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984.  

Investigations are continuing.
