Viable device & ammunition recovered and arrests in West Dublin on the 18/7/11

As part of an ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity members of the Organised Crime Unit at the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation have arrested three men and recovered an explosive device and ammunition.

On the 18/7/2011 at approx 11.20pm members from the Emergency Response Unit stopped and searched two vehicles at Ballyfermot Road, Dublin 10.  During the course of the search a suspicious device was recovered. The Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team attended the scene and the device, which was deemed to be viable, was made safe and removed for further examination. 
 

Two men aged in their late 20's and early 30's were arrested at the scene.  They are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act 193p at Ballyfermot Garda Station. 
 

In a follow up operation a house in the Wheatfield area was searched.  During the search a Gardai recovered a large quantity of ammunition and man aged in his late 20's was arrested. 
 

He is currently detained at Ronanstown Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act 1939.
