Fatal road traffic collision at Spiddal, Co. Galway on the 18/7/11

Gardai in Salthill are investigating the circumstances of a fatal road traffic collision at Furbo, Spiddal, Co Galway on the 18th July 2011.

The collision involving a male pedestrian (42yrs) and a car occurred at approximately 1.30am  on the 18th July 2011 on the Galway to Spiddal Road (R336) at Ballinahowen 3 miles west of Barna.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and removed to University College Hospital Galway. The male driver (19yrs) and sole occupant of the car was uninjured.  The road is currently closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination.

Diversions are in place; traffic travelling west are asked to divert at Barna for Moycullen and travelling from the west are asked to turn left at Spiddal for Moycullen.
