Aggravated burglary in Dundalk, Louth on the 5/7/11 - Appeal

Gardaí at Dundalk are appealing for the public’s assistance in relation to an aggravated burglary which occurred at a property at Ath Leathan, Racecourse Road, Dundalk, yesterday morning, Tuesday, the 5th July 2011.

The occupants awoke to find that 5 masked men had entered the house sometime before 8am.  Two of these men were armed with what appeared to be handguns.  

A couple in their 30's, along with their 3 children - all under 4 years of age, a woman in her 40's and 2 teenagers were in the house at the time - (Total occupants 8).  

An amount of cash was taken. The men made their escape on foot.  It is believed that they had driven to the house and had parked a distance away, completing their journey on foot.  

The man, 36 years, received non life threatening injuries and was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda for treatment.  

No arrests have been made to date and investigations are continuing with an incident room set up in Dundalk.  

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.  Potential witnesses may have noticed activity around this house during the night or early in the morning.  Other activity around this house for a week prior to the incident may also be relevant.
