Disappearance of Marie Greene, Athlone, Westmeath - Court Appearance

A man arrested in connection with the murder of Marie Greene is scheduled to appear before a special sitting of Athlone District Court at 5 p.m. this evening 22nd February 2011.

As part of the investigation, at 2.15p.m. today 22nd February, 2011 a body was removed to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore where a post mortem is scheduled to take place later today.

Gardai in Athlone investigating the murder of Marie Greene have this morning, the 22nd February 2011 sealed off an area of bogland at Annaghgortagh on the Athlone to Mullingar (2 to 3km outside Athlone) Road.

The Gardai have requested the services of the State Pathologist and the Garda Technical Bureau.

Gardai in Athlone investigating the disappearance of Marie Greene have arrested a male (60's) this morning, the 21st Feb 2011 on suspicion of murder.  He is being detained in Athlone Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended. A house has been sealed off in Athlone and is being technically examined.

Gardaí at Athlone are looking for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 37 year old Marie Greene from St. Mels Terrace, Athlone. Co. Westmeath. 

 Marie was last seen at approximately 9pm on Sunday 13/02/2011 in the Athlone Area. 

She is described as being approximately 5’5” in height, slim build and fair complexion.  She has medium length brown hair which is normally tied in a pony tail.  

When last seen she was wearing blue jeans, white runners and a navy zipped up fleece.
