False imprisonment/abduction at Clonfad, Roscommon on the 6-7/4/11

Gardaí at Castlerea are investigating a robbery / false imprisonment/abduction which occurred between the hours of 11pm last night, the 6th April 2011and 8am this morning, the 7th April 2011 at Clonfad, Co. Roscommon.

Four masked men entered a private house adjoining a Post Office and tied up the sole occupant (male). They then travelled with this man to another house.  They took the occupants of this second house (two females and a male) and the man back to the original location (private house adjoining post office).<_o3a_p>

Local Gardaí became suspicious and travelled to the post office, where a Garda confronted the four suspects and was attacked by these men, who were armed with shovels and bars.  The Garda received minor injuries and no other person was physically injured during the incident . The men escaped in a green Volkswagen hatchback car with a 06-Mayo registration number. <_o3a_p> 

Searches are continuing for these men. <_o3a_p> No money was taken from the Post Office.<_o3a_p> 

Gardaí are appealing for information to anybody who was in the area of Clonfad and Williamstown  yesterday evening and who saw anything suspicious or who may have information in relation to the car, to contact Gardaí at Castlerea on 094-9621630, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.<_o3a_p> 

Both locations are currently being preserved for a Garda technical examination.<_o3a_p>
