Following an operation targeting the activities of Dissident Republicans Gardaí from the Special Detective Unit (SDU) supported by local Gardaí stopped and searched a vehicle on the outskirts of Waterford city last Friday (15/10/10).
During the course of the search a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was discovered in the vehicle.
The Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team were called and made the device safe. The device was then removed from the scene for further examination.
Two men have been arrested and are currently detained at Waterford Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences against the State Act.
