Fatal traffic collision Gorey - arrest

Gardai investigating a fatal road traffic collision at Gorey, Co.Wexford, on Sunday the 24th of October have arrested a man.

The man is his 30s was arrested this afternoon the 25th of October 2010 and is detained at Gorey Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí at Gorey are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred shortly after 2.30am this morning, Sunday 24th October 2010, on Main Street, Gorey, Co. Wexford.

A car struck 2 female pedestrians on Main Street and failed to stop.  Both pedestrians were taken to Wexford General Hospital where 1 of them died some time later. The deceased was 20 years old.

The other pedestrian's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A car was discovered burnt out later on in the morning in the Kilnahue Lane area of Gorey and it is believed that it may have been the car involved in the collision.

Main Street Gorey is closed at present pending a full technical and forensic examination.

Gardaí are at scene and diversions are in place.
