Discovery of a body at Greystones, Wicklow on the 4/6/10 - Arrest

Gardai investigating the discovery of a body in Greystones, Co. Wicklow, on the 4th June have arrested a 22 year old man in relation to the incident.

He was arrested shortly before 4.00 p.m. this afternoon the 5th of June 2010.    The man is detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Bray Garda Station.

Shortly before midnight on the 4th June 2010, Gardaí responded to a report of an altercation at Farranakelly Road, Greystones ( this is the new road linking Greystones and the N11) .

On arrival at the scene, Gardaí found the body of a young man lying on the side of the road with what appeared to be serious head injuries. This man was pronounced dead by a local doctor a short time later. Deputy State pathologist Dr Curtis is currently carrying out a postmortem on the body.

Gardai have not yet formally identified the deceased at this stage.

Gardaí are appealing for the following :

  • Anyone who was in the vicinity of Farranakelly Road or Charlesland area last night 4th June 2010 between 11 and 12 midnight to contact them.
  • Anyone who was in the vicinity of the apartments of Farranakelly Close (which overlook the scene) last night between 11 and midnight to contact them
  • Anyone who was in the vicinity of or observed anything in the open ground opposite Farranakelly Close at around midnight.

Gardai can be contacted at the incident room that has been established in Bray Garda station at 6665319, on the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or at any Garda station around the country.

The Garda Technical Bureau from Garda Headquarters remains at scene and a Divisional Search Team are currently searching the areas. House to house enquiries are also being carried out.
