Fatal shooting in Togher, Cork on the 20/1/10 - Press Conference update

Speaking at today’s Press conference in Togher Garda Station -

Superintendent Charlie Barry renewed his appeal for information in relation to the murder of Gerard Staunton (41 years) yesterday, the 20/1/10.


Superintendent Barry called the murder callous and brutal, and appealed to the public for their help on a number of specific points:

 - The van used in the murder was a 92 C red Toyota Liteace (fitted with "bull bars"), which was driven by the attacker from the scene of the murder at Westlawn, Sarsfield Road in the Wilton area of Cork to the Castlewhite/Waterfall area, where it was subsequently found burnt out a short time later.

 - The assailant was approximately 6" in height, wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.


Gardaí in Togher are appealing for anyone who may have seen this Toyota Liteace earlier in the day, or in the area itself at the time of the murder to come forward. They are also looking for anyone with any information to contact them, either at Togher Garda station (021 494 7120) the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Gardai investigating the shooting of a man in his 40’s in Westlawn, Wilton, Togher, Co. Cork yesterday evening, the 20th January 2010 will be holding a press conference at Togher Garda Station at 2pm today, the 21st January in relation to the incident below.

Gardai in Togher in Cork have launched an investigation into the shooting of a man in his 40’s this evening – 20th January 2009.

The incident occurred in Westlawn, Wilton in Togher at approximately 8.15pm.

 
The man was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
