Discovery of bodies Inchicore on the 18/12/10 - Witness appeal

Gardai investigating the deaths of a man and a woman, whose bodies were found in the Grand Canal on Saturday the 18th December 2010, are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

The bodies of Wendy Atkinson, 30 years, originally from Tallaght and Robert Sneddon, 29 years and from Whitehall were discovered in the canal near Suir Road, Dublin 8 at about mid-day.  Post mortem results concluded that they died from drowning.

Gardai would like anyone who was in the area, between 9 a.m Thursday the 16th of December 2010 and Saturday the 18th, to contact them at Kilmainham Garda Station on 01 666 9700.

Gardaí at Kilmainham are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the bodies of a male and a female in the Grand Canal at Suir Road, Inchicore.  Both are believed to be in their late 20's.

The discovery was made shortly after mid-day today, Saturday 18th December 2010, by a member of the public.

The scene is preserved at present and the services of the Garda Technical Bureau and the State Pathologist have been requested.

Post mortems are scheduled to take place tomorrow at City Morgue, Marino.

There is no further information for release at this time.
