Cigarette seizure on the 29/12/10

As a result of an ongoing operation targeting the illegal importation of contraband products the Garda Organised Crime Unit and Revenues Customs Services today, the 29/12/10 seized 2 million cigarettes.

The cigarettes entered the country in a container at Dublin Port a number of days ago and this afternoon Gardaí and Customs officials intervened as the cigarettes were being loaded from the container onto a flat top truck at Greenogue Business park, Newcastle, Co. Dublin.

This seizure has an approximate street value of €860, 000 with an estimated potential loss to revenue of €500,000.

Gardaí arrested three men at the scene, two aged 44 years and one aged 38 years.

They are being detained at Clondalkin and Ballyfermot Garda stations under section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act.

Two lorries, a van and a car have also been seized as part of this investigation.
