Stabbing incident in Drogheda, Louth on the 10/4/10

Shortly before 12.30am this morning (10th April 2010) Gardaí at Drogheda received a call to say that there was a disturbance outside a public house on Laurances Street.

Further calls were received to say that one of the persons involved in the disturbance had a knife and that a number of people had been stabbed on West Street.


On arrival at scene and after initial investigations it appears that a 17 year old male was involved in a disturbance outside a public house on Lauranaces Street and he ran from the scene onto West Street, a short distance away.


There he confronted a group of males who had no involvement in the incident and attacked them with a knife.  Seven of these males received stab injuries at this time.


All seven were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda. One was subsequently transferred to the Mater Hospital.


Two of the injured's conditions are described as being critical.  The remaining 5 have injuries not believed to be life threatening.


A 17 year old male was arrested at the scene and is presently detained at Drogheda Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
