Serious assault at Peoples Park, Waterford on the 21/3/10 - Further update

The man assaulted in this incident died in Waterford Regional Hospital at 5pm today, 1st April 2010.

The services of the State Pathologist have been sought and a  post mortem is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.


Two people have already been charged in relation to this incident, as outlined in press release (attached), and will appear again in  Waterford District Court on the 13th April 2010.

Two men in their 20's will appear at Waterford District Court at 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday, the 24th March 2010, charged in relation to an assault at the Peoples Park in the city on the 21st March.

Two women detained in relation to the same incident have been released without charge and a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai at Waterford investigating the circumstances surrounding a serious assault which occurred at the Peoples Park, Waterford at approximately 11.45pm on the 21/3/10 have made four arrests.

Four people in their 20’s were arrested on the 22/3/10 and are currently in custody at Waterford and Tramore Garda Stations - (2 males in Waterford and 2 females in Tramore), all four are detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.


As a result of the assault two men (both in their mid 20's) were taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for their injuries. One remains in a critical condition.


Gardai wish to appeal to anyone with information or who was in the Peoples Park or the surrounding area around the time of the incident and who can assist the Gardai with their enquiries to contact Waterford Garda Station 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station..
