Garda Community Safety Week.

Visit of Minister Dermot Ahern, T.D to Blackrock National School, Co Louth on Friday 26th September 2008, as part of ‘Garda Community Safety Week’.

The Garda Commissioner, Fachtna Murphy, has endorsed the hosting of a Nationwide Garda Community Safety Week Campaign, with events continuing nationwide until Sunday 28th September 2008. The primary focus throughout Garda Community Safety Week is on ensuring that people in our communities feel safe in their homes, on the streets and on our roads. We are hosting a number of events around the country to highlight simple steps people can take to protect themselves, their families and their properties. As part of this campaign, the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr  Dermot Ahern T.D., will attend Blackrock National School, Blackrock, Co Louth at 1.45pm on Friday 26th September 2008. There, he will observe the presentation by local Community Gardai to Schoolchildren on ‘Road Safety’ and ‘Crime Prevention’ advice. The onus in this talk will be to encourage children to ‘bring home’ a Road Safety/Crime Prevention message to their parents/guardians.

The following areas will be covered in this presentation-

2.      When walking on the road, be ‘visible’ – wear bright coloured clothing and always walk on the correct side of the road.
