Hoax devices at Rutland Grove and Rathmines Road, Dublin on the 13/5/08.

Gardaí from Sundrive Road cordoned off the area and began an evacuation of houses and the services of the Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team.

 

As a result of a call to the Garda Communications Centre at approximately 10.50 pm last night (13th May), a suspicous object was found under a vehicle at Rutland Grove/Avenue, Dublin.

Gardaí from Sundrive Road cordoned off the area and began an evacuation of houses and the services of the Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team were requested.

They arrived at the scene and examined the device and it was declared a hoax shortly after midnight. It has now been forwarded to the Garda Technical Bureau for examination. 

In a separate incident, following a call to the Garda Communications Centre at 12.10 a.m., a suspicious object was located under a vehicle on the Upper Rathmines Road.

Gardaí cordoned off the area and a number of houses were evacuated.

Army EOD attended the incident and the device was declared to be a hoax a short time later. It has been forwarded to the Garda Technical Bureau.  

Gardaí would appeal for anyone with information about either incident to contact them.
