A man in his 30's has been arrested and a firearm recovered following a Garda operation near Dundalk, Co.Louth at 12.50 p.m. on the 17th of May 2008.
Local Gardai backed up by the Garda Emergency Response Unit stopped a van on the Western Bypass near Dundalk.
The driver of the van was arrested and a firearm recovered. He was alone in the van.
The man is detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Dundalk Garda Station and can be detained for up to 72 hours.
