Search and arrest in Wexford on the 5/3/08 - and update.

A man was arrested and is currently detained at New Ross Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act.

 

The Garda member arrested and detained at New Ross on Wednesday, 5th March 2008, has been released from custody without charge. 

A number of investigations are continuing and files will be prepared for The Director of Public Prosecutions. 

The Garda member remains suspended from duty at this time.

As part as an ongoing investigation into criminal activity over a number of years, Gardai in Wexford, supported by National Units, including the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NBCI) and the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation (GBFI), undertook a search of a private dwelling in the New Ross area early this morning. 

The search is currently ongoing. 

During the course of the search, a man, aged 50 years, was arrested and is currently detained at New Ross Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act. 

The arrested man is a serving member of An Garda Siochana and has been suspended from duty. 

As the investigation is ongoing, no further details will be discussed or disclosed at this time.  You will be advised of any significant developments.
