The Garda Control Centre received a call stating that The Villager Licensed Premises in Chapelizod was being held up.

At approximately 12.45am on the 11/3/09 our Control Centre received a call stating that The Villager Licensed Premises in Chapelizod was being held up.

Within 5 minutes the Ballyfermot Patrol car had arrived at scene and were met by the owner who informed them that there was a man on the premises with a gun.

He also informed them that there was a Barman and a number of patrons inside.

On entering the premises the 2 Gardaí were pointed towards the store room by a number of patrons.

At the store room they saw a man with a gun demanding cash from the Barman.

As they got closer the gunman turned and pointed the gun at one of the Garda members who re-acted quickly and disarmed him.

A loaded shotgun was seized.  No shots were fired.

Both Gardaí who dealt with this incident were unarmed and uniformed.

The man involved was arrested and is presently in custody at Ballyfermot Garda station under section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act.
