Gardaí at the Bridewell in Cork are investigating a serious assault that occurred in the city in the early hours of the morning at Clarke's Bridge, near the social welfare offices.
A lone female was attacked by a male at this site shortly before 4am.
The injured party is 21 years of age and she was treated for her injuries at The South Infirmary Hospital.
An incident room has been set up in the Bridewell.
