Serious assault that resulted in a fatality in Waterford City on the 31/5/06 - and updates.

Gardaí at Waterford are investigating a serious assault that took place inside an address on Barrack Street, Waterford City.

 

The male injured in the assault at Barrack Street, Waterford on the 31/05/08, died last night at Cork University Hospital.

A post mortem is to be conducted later today. 

He has been named as Michael Corbett, aged 51, from Barrack Street, Co. Waterford. 

A 29 year old male, who has been charged in relation to this assault, is to appear again at Waterford District Court this morning at 10.30am.

The 49 year old male detained in connection with the assault at Barrack Street, Waterford City on the 31/05/08, is expected to appear at a special sitting of Waterford District Court this evening (02/06/08) at 7.30pm, charged in relation to this incident.

Gardaí at Waterford are investigating a serious assault that took place inside an address on Barrack Street, Waterford City, last night. 

A 51 year old man received serious head injuries and was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital.  He was subsequently transferred to Cork University Hospital. 

A 49 year old man was arrested at the scene and was taken to Waterford Garda Station where he is presently detained under section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act. 

Anyone who was in the Barrack Street area between 11pm and 12 mid night last night and may have information to offer is asked to contact Gardaí at Waterford on 051 305300.  The assault itself is believed to have occurred between 11.30pm and 11.50pm.
