Investigation into the murder of Sophie Toscon du Plantier.

The Garda Commissioner has decided that An Garda Siochana is now in a position to progress requests received from the French authorities.

Directions have now been received from the Director of Public Prosecutions relating to the investigation carried out by Assistant Commissioner Ray McAndrew, Southern Region, arising from complaints about the Garda investigation into the murder of Sophie Toscon du Plantier.

In light of the fact that there are now no criminal proceedings in train or contemplated, the Garda Commissioner has decided that An Garda Siochana is now in a position to progress requests received from the French authorities.

These requests will be processed under the mutual assistance arrangements and in accordance with the appropriate procedures and mechanisms.

In reaching this decision the Garda Commissioner has been in consultation with the Attorney General, the Minister & Department of Justice, Equality & Law Reform, which acts as the central authority for mutual assistance requests.
