Discovery of body at Portlaoise, Laois on the 23/1/08 - and updates

Gardai at Portlaoise investigating the disappearance of Thomas (Tommy) Thompson discovered a human remains at Dysart, Portlaoise.

 

The human remains found at Dysart, Portlaoise on 23/1/08 have been identified as the body of Tommy Thompson whose disappearance on April 20th 2007 was being investigated. 

Previous Release below refers.

The cause of death is not being released at this time.

There is no further information at present and updates will be provided in due course.

Gardai from Portlaoise Garda station, Co. Laois investigating the disappearance of Thomas Thompson arrested a man in his 30's this morning in connection with their investigation.

The man is being held at Portlaoise Garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardai at Portlaoise investigating the disappearance of Thomas (Tommy) Thompson, this afternoon, the 23/1/08 discovered a human remains at Dysart, Portlaoise,

A search of the area commenced early this morning as part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Tommy Thompson on the 20th April, 2007, from Borris Road, Portlaoise.    

The body remains at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.  

The scene is currently subject of a forensic and technical examination by a Garda Crime Scene Investigation Team and the office of the State Pathologist has been advised.

Superintendent, Portlaoise who is leading this investigation, wishes to acknowledge the great support and assistance from many people in the Portlaoise area regarding this investigation, which has proved invaluable.

He also wishes to renew his appeal to any person who has information regarding the disappearance of Tommy Thompson to contact Portlaoise Garda Station at 057 8674100.

Gardai are also anxious to locate Mr. Thompson’s vehicle – a blue Renault van, registration number 06-LS-2453.
