Gardaí at Galway arranged for the cinema to be evacuated and the fire brigade assisted in an examination of the scene.

Patrons at the Eye Cinema on Eyre Square, Galway, experienced irritation to their throats and coughing last night, 20/1/08.

Gardaí at Galway arranged for the cinema to be evacuated and the fire brigade assisted in an examination of the scene.

No injuries were received and no one required any medical treatment.

This happened sometime after 9.30pm.

Shortly after 11pm, an 18 year old man was arrested following a separate incident at a service station in Salthill.

It is believed that a spray was released through the hatch at the station when an employee went to get goods for a customer.

This man was detained under Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act at Galway Garda Station and was later released without charge.

Both incidents are believed to be linked.

A file will be prepared and forwarded to The Director of Public Prosecutions.
