Murder of two Polish nationals in Drimnagh, Dublin on the 23/2/08 - and up dates

Garda at Sundrive Road are investigating the injuries to two Polish nationals following an altercation with three other persons on Benbulbin Road, Drimnagh at 6.50p.m. this evening, 23rd February 2008.

 

Garda can confirm that the second man injured in Saturday's (23/02/08) incident on Benbulbin Road has died. 

He has been named as 26 year old Pawel Kalite originally from Poland, with an address on Benbulbin Road, Dublin 12.

A 17 year male arrested as part of the investigation into this incident remains in custody at Crumlin Garda Station.

The 15 year old man detained at Crumlin in relation to the above investigation has been released without charge.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The 19 year old male being held in custody in Sundrive Road Garda Station in connection with the investigation into the death of Marius Szwajkos (previous Release below refers) has been released.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The second male remains in custody in Crumlin Garda Station.

There is no further information at present.

The name of the deceased is Marius Szwajkos, 27 years, from Szczucin, Poland.

Two males remain in custody in connection with the continuing investigation of this matter.

Gardai can confirm that one of the Polish nationals assaulted last Saturday evening the 23/2/08 has died. 

Gardaí are now renewing their appeal for witnesses who were in and around Benbulbin Road on Saturday evening to come forward to them at Sundrive Road. The investigation has been upgraded to a murder investigation.


Superintendent "This is a terrible crime which has been committed not just against new members of our community but against the community itself. The good people of Drimnagh are appalled at what has happened in their neighbourhood. We are asking people to come forward with information and to work with us in achieving justice for these young men and their families."

The other man injured in this assault remains critical.

Gardaí investigating the murder of a man and serious assault of a second man on Benbulbin Road, Drimnagh on Saturday evening, the 23/2/08 have arrested an individual.

The man, aged 19, is currently being detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Sundrive Road Garda Station.

Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident (please see earlier release below)

Garda at Sundrive Road are investigating the injuries to two Polish nationals following an altercation with three other persons on Benbulbin Road, Drimnagh at 6.50p.m. this evening, 23rd February 2008.  

The two injured males were taken to St. James Hospital.  The scene has been preserved for technical examination.

Initial investigation would indicate that the two males who are in their late 20's, sustained serious stab wounds to the head.
