Financial Accounting

About the Financial Accounting Section

A Financial Accountant manages the Financial Accounting Section. He is supported by a team of 12 people - 2 Assistant Accountants and 10 Civilian Staff. In addition Garda Central Stores has 10 staff. The Financial Accountant reports to the Director of Finance.

 

The Financial Accounting Section's functions include:-

  • Preparation of An Garda Síochána’s Annual Appropriation Accounts
  • Liaison with Internal Audit and the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General
  • Accounts Payable
  • Purchasing of items on behalf of stations and HQ units
  • Garda Central Stores
  • Maintenance of An Garda Síochána’s Asset Register

The Financial Accountant and his team are responsible for overseeing a huge volume of transactions, covering the wide spectrum of goods and services required by An Garda Síochána.

 

The goals of the Finance Section are:-

  • To ensure the prompt purchasing and delivery of equipment and supplies to members, stations and units of An Garda Síochána
  • To ensure the timely payment of suppliers in order that An Garda Síochána meets its obligations under the Prompt Payment of Accounts Act 1997
  • To ensure that all fees due for non-public duties are promptly collected and remitted
  • To ensure Value for Money in public expenditure
  • To develop and maintain excellent relationships with suppliers in order to deliver the best possible service to the organisation
