About the Financial Accounting Section
A Financial Accountant manages the Financial Accounting Section. He is supported by a team of 12 people - 2 Assistant Accountants and 10 Civilian Staff. In addition Garda Central Stores has 10 staff. The Financial Accountant reports to the Director of Finance.
The Financial Accounting Section's functions include:-

Preparation of An Garda Síochána’s Annual Appropriation Accounts

Liaison with Internal Audit and the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General

Accounts Payable

Purchasing of items on behalf of stations and HQ units

Garda Central Stores

Maintenance of An Garda Síochána’s Asset Register
The Financial Accountant and his team are responsible for overseeing a huge volume of transactions, covering the wide spectrum of goods and services required by An Garda Síochána.
The goals of the Finance Section are:-

To ensure the prompt purchasing and delivery of equipment and supplies to members, stations and units of An Garda Síochána

To ensure the timely payment of suppliers in order that An Garda Síochána meets its obligations under the Prompt Payment of Accounts Act 1997

To ensure that all fees due for non-public duties are promptly collected and remitted

To ensure Value for Money in public expenditure

To develop and maintain excellent relationships with suppliers in order to deliver the best possible service to the organisation
