Details of the Garda Ladies Choir

Garda Ladies Choir

The Garda Ladies Choir was formed in 1986. Since that time, the choir has entertained audiences countrywide and in doing so, has raised thousands of euros for various charities, hospitals and schools.

The choir has performed in numerous Irish venues including The National Concert Hall in Dublin, The Waterfront in Belfast, City Hall in Cork. In December 2008 it performed in Farmleigh House in Dublin. The choir has also performed on several occasions in London with the Gwalia Welsh Male Voice Choir. The choir made history in 2004 when, for the first time in the Republic, it performed with the choir of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) at the International Police Associations Annual Conference in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.

Variety is the keynote of the choir and it has an extensive repertoire. In April 2005, it recorded a CD entitled Rún Mo Chroí. In 2001, the choir guest-performed on the Garda Band CD An Garda Síochána – In Concert.

The choir is under the expert Musical Directorship of Mr. Rodney Baldwin. The choir's accompanist, Mrs. Mairead Reidy, is a niece of Mr. John King, former Director of Music of the Garda Band and also a former Musical Director of the Garda Ladies Choir.
