Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle on the 1/7/17

Road closures

The Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle will have almost 10,000 participants coming from all over Ireland and abroad as well as 1,400 volunteers, the event will mean a busy weekend in Kerry.
 
Ahead of the event we have some important information to share with you:

• The start is in Killarney and cyclists will begin from 6:00am
• The event will run until 8:00pm
• The finish line and after party celebration will be in Beech Road Car Park in Killarney
 
An Garda Siochana and the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle is doing its upmost to ensure that the cycle is a fun and safe day for everybody involved, and we would like to issue the following safety message:

• Please adhere to all traffic regulations and signage.
• Please fully comply with all directions of Gardaí and Marshalls who have your safety in mind.
• Remember you are sharing the road with HGV’s, Buses and Cars. Secure your helmet and be seen, wear Hi Vis clothing.
• Steer clear of left turning HGV’s. Let them turn before you move ahead.
• To prevent exhaustion, dehydration and loss of concentration, please take sufficient breaks and drink sufficient amount of fluid.
• Store all emergency numbers in your mobile phone.
• If commencing cycle event in darkness you MUST have lights on your bike. Consider using your lights all day to increase your visibility to other road users.
• Monitor your speed, especially on the descent.
• This is not a race, please take your time and enjoy the day return home safely.
 
An Garda Síochána wish to advise that the following roads will be closed

Mission Road, Killarney

Road Closed:  N71
(Road Closing Times: from 5.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. and 11.30a.m. to 8.00 p.m.)

Starting at Kenmare Place and finishing at the junction of the N71, Mission Road and the R877, New Street.

Beech Road, Killarney

Road Closed:  L3909
(Road Closing Times: from 5.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. and 12.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.)

Starting at the junction of the L3909, Beech Road and the R877, New Street and finishing at the junction of the L3909, Beech Road and the N71, Mission Road.

Fossa to Killorglin  

Road Closed:  N72
(Road Closing Times: from 6.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m.)

Starting from the junction of the N72 and the R563, Milltown Road at Fossa via Ballymalis and Anglont and finishing at the junction of the N72 and N70 at Laune Bridge, Killorglin.   

(Traffic diversions will be in place via the R563 through Faha and Listry and the N70 from Milltown to Killorglin.)

Killorglin to Caragh Bridge (Eastbound Lane)

Road Closed  N70 (Eastbound Lane)
(Road Closing Time: from 6.00 a.m. to 12 noon)

Starting at the Iveragh Road Roundabout via Iveragh Road, Tullig, Quaybaun and finishing at Caragh Bridge.

(A one-way traffic diversion will be in place for traffic travelling eastbound from Caherciveen and Glenbeigh on the L-4022/L-4033/L-4034 Local Primary routes via Dooks, Cromane, Garraun and Castleconway.  Traffic travelling westbound from Killorglin to Glenbeigh will remain on the N70.)

Sneem to Molls Gap

Roads Closed: R568
(Road Closing Times: from 11am to 8.00 p.m.)

Starting at the junction of the R568 and the L4074 at Derreendarragh Cross and finishing at the junction of the R568 and the N71 at Molls Gap.

Kenmare to Torc  

Road Closed: N-71
(Road Closing Times: from 11am to 8.00 p.m.)

Starting at the junction of the N70 and N71 at Gortamullin via Molls Gap and Galway’s Bridge and finishing at Torc Waterfall Car Park.

(Motorists travelling between Killarney and Kenmare at the above times are advised to use the alternative N22 / R569 route via Glenflesk and Kilgarvan.
