Management and Supervisory Training

Staff of the Management & Supervisory Training unit

The Management and Supervisory Training Section (MST), based in Nenagh, is responsible for identifying the ever-changing training and development needs of newly promoted Chief Superintendents, Superintendents, Inspectors and Sergeants. 

 

MST personnel research, design and deliver developmental programmes to middle and senior management. Courses are delivered by Gardaí, other government agencies and external contractors. The section also administers the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Police Management Degree Programme.

 

The model that MST uses to develop courses has 4 stages. It is a model for continuous learning and development, with feedback mechanisms which allow for measurement of effectiveness.

 

The 4 stages are as follows:

  • Preparation and Assessment
  • Development of a Personal Development Plan
  • Implementation of Learning Interventions
  • Evaluation and Review

There are also key developmental relationships which facilitate the process and support the participant through the various programmes. The key roles are:-

  • Programme Facilitator
  • Mentors
  • Managers (Assistant Commissioners)
