Legal Text Revision Unit

One of the Unit’s most significant recent projects was the revision of the Garda Síochána Guide 7th Edition. This review provides guidance on the enormous legislative provisions enacted since the previous edition (1991). It also deals with relevant case law issuing from the Superior Courts. 

This Guide is an essential support tool in the provision of effective and professional policing. It is 3,600 pages long and is produced in two loose-leaf volumes. It is also available electronically within the organisation. 

The Unit also provides quality control of material submitted for inclusion in the Knowledge Management project. This is an on-line knowledge database for all members of An Garda Síochána.  It is available on a pilot basis in a number of Divisions throughout the country. 

Other recent projects include:-

• The delivery of keynote legal lectures to a number of courses and projects
• Contributing to the development of members’ legal knowledge through modules in detective training and promotion courses 
• Assisting the Promotion Examination Board in the ongoing review of examination syllabi
