The Garda team that won an award for its website for new communities living in Dublin North Inner City

The Garda Commissioner established the Garda Racial and Intercultural Office (GRIO) in April 2000. Staff members of the GRIO coordinate, monitor and advise on all aspects of policing in the area of ethnic and cultural diversity. The office has a staff of 3 (2 Gardaí and 1 Civilian Administrator). GRIO staff members are available to members of the public and the Garda organisation for advice and support in the GRIO area of expertise.

The website www.nicnewcommunities.ie aims to provide people from new commmunities living and working in the North Inner City area with a channel of communication to express their views, and to build relationships between the new communities, the Gardaí and Dublin City Council. The website was developed by An Garda Síochána Dublin Metropolitan Regional North Central Division. It won an award at the Media and Multicultural Awards in November 2008.
